Application The Plate Bearing Test is essentially a model test of foundations used for determining the load-deformation characteristics and ultimate bearing capacity of soils.

This test is widely accepted as a standard method for evaluating soil bearing capacity, and the results obtained are commonly used for comparison and calibration of other soil testing methods.

In this method, a steel bearing plate is subjected to gradually increasing loads while the corresponding settlement of the plate is observed and recorded.

The Ultimate Bearing Capacity of the soil is determined at the point where the settlement increases rapidly with a small increment in load.
